On giving it the first try.

Hi all, Juanna here! Hope everyone's doing great so far. The year's almost half way through, time flies! With that being said, I was doing some reflection on my scrapbooking journey lately and the most significant reflection was about my experience coming out of the box, coming out of the fear of using certain products.

I have to admit that there are really moments when I am very tempted to try using certain products but I hold myself back because I am afraid that I will mess it up and put the product or maybe a pretty piece of paper to waste. So this year, I told myself I have to stop thinking that way or I wouldn't grow; be it on the scrapbooking front or in my personal life. I set several goals and one of which was to work with G45 papers. I love G45- prints and all and I marvelled at how some designers could really carry the product so well. For perhaps a year, I very much wanted to give it a go but didnt because I was intimidated. So finally, I did it. This year. I just had enough of restricting myself, so my first task was to use G45 papers on a project even if I didn't know how it might turn out.

And you must be wondering, so what happened? I went to my local scrapbook store. I spent some money on the available G45 papers, some coordinating embellishments etc. Armed with my scrappy tools, I went to work using the papers on a metal tin. It was meant to be a gift for a special occassion. I just worked it out, casting out whatever fears that might creep in to say its not good enough. I just had fun, without a care. I was really happy with my first attempt but even more happy that I overcomed a little fear of mine. A personal milestone!

I do not know if any of you readers might have the same experience as I am but I do hope my little sharing today would be an encouragement of some sort. (: I will stop this wordy post by sharing my altered tin project.

Have a good week! (:

Washi Wednesday Number 3

Hello to you all- Its washi wednesday again and I have something new for you to try - this can be used as an embellishment for a scrapbook page or for a card  or just to spark up an otherwise boring paper clip!!

You will need some paper clips - plain silver or these pretty coloured ones as I have used.

You simply need to take  strips of washi tape and  double them up on the end of the paper clip -  cool and funky looking paper clips.....

cute huh!!!!

Have a fabulous washi Wednesday!!!!

Meet The Designers - Kim Kendall

It's time to meet those talented ladies who are part of the Scrapbook Kits With A Difference Design Team. Over the next couple of weeks, I will introduce you to each and every one. I gave them a list of questions, and they have all obliged and shared their answers with us.
Please meet our first designer, Kim Kendall.

1. Husband? Children? Pets?
Yes I have a partner Donald, he is a very patient man who cannot for the life of him work out the obsession of scrapping I have, but appreciates what I do, I have a 28 year daughter Malina who has been the subject of scrapping and who loves ordering what she would like done with a photo.
Yes we have a few of these I have the 2 dogs Jasper a adopted fox terrier, Patrick the kelpie, Daisy the geriatric horse Daisy she is a grand old dam of 27 years and her paddock companion and carer Choppy the wether sheep, he has been her “baby” for the last 12 years, yes she thinks he is a foal, they share the stable together and sleep together like a mare and foal, so as you can see we have a what we call our menagerie.
2. Do you have your own scraproom. Describe where you scrap, or supply a photo.
When we bought this property I stole one of the bedrooms and set it up with paper racks down one wall bookshelves on another and the is the wardrobe and computer desk and the other wall is a ceiling to floor window which faces east and lets in an amazing amount of natural light, In the centre of the room is a board table that sets 6 so i can always host friends for a crop. Photo who are you kidding do you think I want to so you my mess, I have this amazing table and end up scrapping on a A3 mat as I tend to wait until it annoys me before I clean it up.

3. How long have you been scrapping?
Hmmm... now to work that out I start with going to a Creative Memories party and knew immediately that I wanted more than they could offer so went looking this was about 14 years ago now and I have never looked back since.

4. Favourite colour or colour combination? Least favourite colour to scrap with?
Oh this is so hard I love so many but would have to take the easy out on this one and say earth tones i just love the warmth of them and the depth of felling you can achieve with them oh this is sounding all too in-depth here   LOL. But I also love pinks
Least favourite is what I call the gaudy solid brights like blue, pink and yellow just so hard to achieve the warmth and depth of feeling with those colours yet I can appreciate that other might just love working with solid colours, green and gold is another combination I really don’t like at all.

5. Do you have a dream team that you would like to be on?
I think  that I would love to be on the Prima or Tattered Angles probably Tattered Angles would be my preference as I just love what you can achieve with their products are amazing and can be used in so many different ways you actually don’t need to even use pattern paper with the different things they offer.
On sketch sites to be on Sketchabilities was one of my dreams and I achieved this in 2011 and even managed to be accepted for 2 consecutive terms which was awesome.

6. Do you use paper or cardstock for your layout base?
I tend to used a mixture of either pattern paper or cardstock but only use 3 different colours of card stock predominately that being black, white and kraft with the occasional cream or dark brown popping in

7. Black, white, or kraft?
I just answered this above LOL I really only use these colours

8. Favourite scrapper?
My favourite scrapper, well the list could go on forever I can tell you, but probably the one I am finding the most inspiring at the moment is Finnabair - what she can do with paper and embellies is so amazing.

9. Favourite technique? Least favourite?
Misting and using mixed media I love it, to use gesso and a stencil to forma base then add gauze and other bits like string, metal even flowers  and then use mist, glim and glam to colour and give depth of colour to it,  even paint is just so inspiring and it gives you something so unique.
Least favourite is an old one that appears every so often and that is poppets. I just cannot stand them at all.

10. Favourite manufacturer? Favourite product?
I love many manufacturers but my all time fav is Graphic 45 the papers offer endless possibilities to cut and layer and create a picture their metal embellies are also amazing as there is just so much you can achieve with these and a pair of pliers. I was fortunate enough to attend their classes in Sydney in 2011 and oh wow the things they taught about their products was amazing.

Please feel free to drop by Kim's blog and leave some love. I'm sure you will find something to inspire you.

Washi Wednesday Number 2

Good morning to you all - here we are with Washi Wednesday Number 2 - another  quick and easy card - so soft and pretty and took only minutes!!!

Take some coordinating washi tapes - I have gone with a green and pink combination - love them together!!  Run some strips down your card and then across the card.  Tear the ends - it adds to the interest of the card!!

Stamp a cute card greeting - I have used a punch to cut the shape out !
I have then added it to some pop dots so it sits up on the card.  Glue some pretty  flowers at the side of the greeting - VOILA

Washi card Number 2 !!!

Welcome to Washi Wednesday!!

One of the most  popular scrapbooking  items on the market at the moment is washi tape - you can find it everywhere and I may have a small obsession with it!!

So for the next few weeks , each Wednesday I will upload some simple and fun ways to work with your washi tape!!  Here is the first - a nice simple card - some washi and a simple stamped greeting and you have a great  card !!

Take a blank card and run some strips of washi cut on the angle like this......

Then I have just used a simple stamp to make a greeting - you could use stickers or even just a number for a birthday card!!!!

Simple but stylish huh!!!!

Have a wonderful washi Wednesday and Ill be back  next week with some great washi ideas!!!!

Borders - Dress them up!!

I used the wonderful Kit from Scrapbook Kits With a Difference to create my layout.  In this kit were wonderful papers from Crate Paper and tons of fun embellishments.  So with this kit I went in a different direction for colors and design for an Easter LO, I sometimes get bored of the same old pastel colors for our Easter pictures.

I love to use frames and draw attention to parts of my layouts.  I did something a bit different from the norm of faux stitching, I did use a pen to make a straight line to mimic a machine stitch, but I also used rub-ons that are not the typical look for stitching, I hope you can try it out!!

This is just one of the two layouts you can create using the May Kit from Erin R.  To view the other layout please follow the link.

Included In This Kit:
2 x cardstoxk; 2 x patterned paper (Crate); Basic Grey rub-ons; Creative Imaginations brads; Trimmings rub-ons; Crate journal cards; Zva Creative rhinestones; assorted flowers; various ribbons; Trimmings chipboard; paper doily; resin roses; stick pin; resin butterfly; and large buttons. Instructions also included.

Secret journaling

Sometimes you do not want to show the journaling on your page. You can either write on the back of the page or hide the journaling. I like hiding it.
This page was made for a challenge called "hidden envelope" and can you guess where the envelope (with the journaling) is hidden?

it is hidden under the photo:

and contains a tag with a heart and journaling on the other side:
So where do you keep you secret journaling?

Distress Painted Chipboard Tutorial

I am always hunting around for the best color, shape and look for my chipboard that I add to my layouts, so this time I tried a new technique for my chipboard letters.  I did not have the right color or shape, so I took some plain chipboard and paint distressed it to fit with the layout.  So here is a tutorial to show you how I did it

Distress Painted Chipboard Tutorial

1) Supplies - chipboard, acrylic paint, paint brush, and ink (I used Distress ink, but any will work)

2) Paint your chipboard your desired color - if you are painting over an existing color you might need more than one coat.  Let completely dry before any further steps.

3) Press your finger into the ink (I find brown inks work best) and make sure you have ink on your finger.

 4) Transfer the ink from your finger into your dried chipboard.  You will see finger print marks (lines from your finger) but that just ass to the effect plus they fade some while drying.  Aplly as many coats as you wish, let each coat dry some before the next one or you will just wipe the ink off.

 5) Let the ink dry before gluing to your project.  You get this really pretty distressed look to your chipboard, in any color arrangement you like - all your need is the paint color and ink!!

Hello and Goodbye...

Oh, it's been a busy month of many changes. It's hard to know where to begin. Let's start with a welcome to our newest Team Designer, Doris Lee Widder. Doris hails from the USA, and brings a lot of inspiration with her. Welcome to the team Doris! We are so happy to have you on board.
But with a hello, comes a good-bye. Team Designer Holly Connors is saying farewell. We wish you all the best for the future. And we will miss you. Please make sure you come back to visit. :-)
Yes, our blog has changed too. I decided we needed a new image. I hope you like it? And we are now on Facebook. Don't forget to pop on over to our Facebook Page and "Like" us!!! All the latest sneak peeks, tutorials, and new stock upload notices, will be posted on Facebook, as well as here on the blog.
The store will change eventually. It's a bit harder to achieve, and will take a little more time. But it will get there eventually. So please be patient with me as I navigate through this process.
And soon, I will be introducing a new type of kit. They will be called "Designer Kits". These will be larger kits based on particular ranges or themes, but they will not come with instructions. Instead, a guest designer will provide inspiration by creating several examples to share with you, here on the blog. I will have these kits in-store in the next 2-3 months.
And don't forget, our new challenges are up. Make sure you check out the June Sketch and June Inspiration challenges. You have until midnight on the 30th June to get your entries in. Send your layouts to
