Scalloped edge using a corner punch

Edge punches have been around for a while and most of you probably have them... but if you do not, there is a simple trick on how to make your own. Now this is no news but as I used this on my August Class Kit page I promised I would show, just incase someone has forgotten.

In my opinion everyone should have a corner punch. It is so useful and makes such a difference with small means. Now you cannot only use it for rounding the corners, you can also use it to make a scallop edge. You need to carefully remove the guide and then you just pusch it up-side-down against the paper and create the scallopes, one after another. Super easy.

As I said, I used it on my Tinker Bell August Class kit to make those 2 green vertical scalloped stripes behind the center pattern paper. Go ahead and try it if you haven't already!

Of course you can always free-hand cut as well.

Using masks - pre-made and DIY masks

I love using masks together with mists, gesso, acrylic paint or well even with the kids blow pens...
there is a lot of premade masks to buy. one of my favorite manufacturer right now is Crafters Workshop but also Prima, Studio Calico, Pink Paislee and Tattered Angels have beautiful masks.
Sometime, however, I like to make my own mask using just something laying around; a chipboard, a lace, a net from kitchen or by printing a nice shape and then cutting it out. Here are some examples:

Here I have used two of my favorite masks from Crafters - with mists:

a mask from Pink Paislee - with a ink pad and pink embossing powder:

again with 2 favorites from Crafters - with mists, also letting some mists drip under the photo:

with beautiful butterfly masks from Studio Calico - and mist:

with a piece of lace in one of the SKWAD kits - and mist:

with a cat shape I just printed and cut out in plain paper  - and the kids blow pens. I moved the shape around and changed color of the blow pens. In the end I also used the mask on the page:

with a home made wing I cut out - and mist:

There are all sorts of fun you can make with masks, some color and a little fantasy that will add that little extra to your pages.. come on and try it.

Secret journaling

Sometimes you do not want to show the journaling on your page. You can either write on the back of the page or hide the journaling. I like hiding it.
This page was made for a challenge called "hidden envelope" and can you guess where the envelope (with the journaling) is hidden?

it is hidden under the photo:

and contains a tag with a heart and journaling on the other side:
So where do you keep you secret journaling?

For the love of Twine

I confess, I am a Twine addict. I just love this two colored decoratoive thread.. so useful and pretty.
Jules have bougfht some tTwine so you can expect Twine to be a part of the up-comming kits - isn't that just fantastic!!!!
Here is some ideas on how you can use Twine very easily...

Just tie it onto some tags...

Tie it around a heart ...

Tie a rosette around some butterflies

Tie the Twine around the back of a mini-book...

Put a bundle of the Twine under a doily and let it stick out a little...

I am sure you will be able to find many more ways of using Twine.

Have you made any creations using Twine lately? Feel free to add a linc under this blog post

Easy Distressed/ Embossing Technique

Hi Juanna here! May has finally descended upon us! I do not know why, but the month of May’s a personal favourite of mine apart from December. I do hope this new month would be one filled with lots of fun and adventures, especially scrap wise for all of you. (:
Today, I will be sharing with you an easy distressed/embossing technique that I put to use on a small card that I made last month.
You will need white cardstock, distress inks in a darker shade of brown and a light shade of brown, a background stamp of your choice, another image stamp, embossing ink, clear embossing powder and a heat gun.
Firstly, cut your cardstock to a size that you want to work with. My card is in ATC size of 2.5” by 3.5”.
Next, using your background stamp, with the darker brown distress ink (I use walnut stain here), stamp the background image on your white cardstock. Dry the ink with your heat gun.

Once you’re certain that the ink’s dry, with your other image stamp, stamp the image on top of the first background using embossing ink.
Pour clear embossing powder on your stamped image, tap the excess powders away, and melt the embossing powders on image with a heat gun. You will get a clear, embossed image on your card.

After the image dries, distress the whole card with distress ink in a lighter shade of brown (I used scattered straw here).

You will be able to see the clear embossed design standing out on your card very clearly.

Get your fingers inky! Have fun!

Reverse shapes with punches

Sometimes I like to make a reverse shape with punches to get a #D effect on my pages. So instead of building up a 3D effect with layering I dig it down into the page. It can be done with ordinary punches or "anywhere in the page" punches.
It can also be made on tags - easier to handle in a cuttlebug or similar.
Behind the hole you can choose any pattern p
aper or confetti or a transparency depending on what effect you would like.
Some inspiration for you:

This is a detail from the May inspiration page - so I wont show the whole page just yet ;)

Here I used the technique on a tag and used different pattern papers between the letters in "pretty"

If you decide to try this I would love to see what you have made so please make a link as a comment to this blog post

Have a great scrappy day!

Stamping with stencils and embossing - by Petra

Hi everyone!
Petra from Sweden here and I am going to show you what happens when you use a stencil to stamp. I choose a big swirl and pressed it carefully against a Watermark/embossing ink pad and then I carefully placed it on my page. I then used a brayer to make sure i got a transfer onto my page.
After removing the stencil, I just poured on the embossing powder as normal and heated with an embossing fan. If you do not have that you can hold it over the electric stove - works just as well.

This is the result - do you like it?

Cover it

If you have a photo that you really like but there is something in that photo disturbing you, you can either get rid of it in Photoshop or just cover it with a nice embellishment.
That is what I did on my page. I cut up a doily and simply sewed it on to the photo to cover the pillow in disturbing colors in the background. Easy - peasy

I added a second piece of doily to get balance and this is the page when finished.

Hope you like it ♥ /Petra

How to use washi tape

Hi it is the 5th and it is time or my blog day and today I would like to show a few ways of using washi tape.
Are you all familiar with washi tape? It is sort of a paper tape that comes in millions of colors and zillions of patterns.

These are a few ways of using washi tape:

As a pattern on a gift bag made from an envelope:

With Twine to make a banner:

As a decorative border:

As a stripe (the green and red narrow stripes are tape):

On top of a pattern paper:

In the edges of the PP cluster:

Hope you enjoyed and got some new ideas

Plaing with paint

Hi there,
Petra here and yoday I will talk a little bit about paint. I love paint :) According to me there is never an excuse to not use paint on a page. It gives the page a unique look and lifts up pale papers.
On the page below I have used paint in three different ways.

1) I have painted the pattern paper with paint mixed with water, not the entire paper but parts of it.
2) I have used paint on a mask and then pressed the mask against the paper to get a partial print. After letting dry I have used a pen to highlight the shape
3) I have used paint (again mixed with water) and splashed on the background.

You can use most types of paint; acrylic, distress ink, mist, etc., depending on the looks you want and how dark your paper is to start with. Om this particular page I used Acrylic paint as I had a black background.
Supply from YouDo, Canvas Corp, MakingMemories and Tattered Angels

Now go and play with paint!

Bye /Petra

Ribbon flower tutorial

Hi and welcome to my ribbon flower tutorial. I am sure many of you have seen it before but I am also sure there will some of you that havent tried this before.
I will show you step by step how to make the pink and white dotted ribbon flower in the left lower corner of my layout that also is a part of one of the September kits:

************
Now we will make a flower .
I recommend that you try to make one flower first before adding the glue dots for practice. This also let you see if your paper circle has the right size of the base circle.

Cut out a circle from a piece of paper.

************
************

Staple one end of the ribbon to the centre of the circle and add some glue dots or similar to the rest of the circle. Be careful so the ribbon does not stick.

************

************

Holding the circle with the attached ribbon in one hand, twist the ribbon until it is all twisted.

************

************
Start from the centre mounting the twisted ribbon in circles.

************

************
Mount the edge of the ribbon on the back side of the circle (with a glue dot) after cutting off any parts of the circle sticking outside of the ribbon.

************
************
Add the flower to the page.

Have fun creating!

Dress it up

Sometime when I have made a layout I find it a bit boring and so was the case with the original layout I did for the September 15 sketch. I decided to dress it up a bit.

This is the original layout:

I wanted to add some paint stains but I did not want to get paint on the photo and decorations so I made myself a simple mask:

I then cut down the size of the page and rounded the corners, added a frame , moved the mini alphas and added some machine stitching. I like it so much better dressed up like this:

What do you think?
